Scrap Metal Processing Plant Refurbishment 2018

AJ Specialist Welding have recently completed a major re-build and overhaul of Briggs Metals hammer mill which was based at their Newark site.

AJSW was selected as the alternative to the OEM as the rebuild contractor due to them being able to make a significant cost saving for the customer which didn’t reduce the standard of the workmanship and wear products.

Decommissioned Scrap Metal Processing Plant

The customer decommissioned their scrap metal hammer mill processing plant in December 2017 and delivered the major components to our Coalville works on the 22nd December so that AJ Specialist Welding could make a start on the refurbishment during the shutdown between Christmas and the New Year.

Following detailed inspection and testing of all major products, the unit was deemed to be serviceable and was then processed through our works undergoing all the necessary remedial repairs to bring the units back to the OEM factory tolerances as the machine was made to at the start of its life.

Mobile Line Boring

Wear and tear is inevitable as equipment ages over the years which means issues like these are likely to become problematic once established on site. We are able to demonstrate quick and timely fixes and confidently repair damaged linkages exactly the same as what we have demonstrated with this project.

AJSW equipment includes our mobile line-boring vehicle service which provides plant and equipment on site to repair elongated, oversized or worn out bores. Our top of the range vehicles are self-contained with mobile power generation and industry leading lighting and are able to work anywhere in the UK Nationwide.

Utilising the latest in boring technology our highly experienced engineers are able to weld and accurately machine out to OEM specification on-site, saving your company time and money.

Our line boring machine can bore and weld between 42mm to 400mm and up to 3 metres long.

The following parts were supplied to the customer for the re-build and overhaul of the hammer mill:

  • New AJS 400 abrasion resistant liners
  • New AJS chrome carbide wear plates
  • New machined bushes
  • New machined pins
  • New machined shafts
  • Rebuild of worn flanges and original body components
  • Machining back to standard of flanges and original body components
  • Manufacture of AJS 400 abrasion resistant eject door
  • Welding and line boring of all major bores
  • Shrinking all new bushes into repaired bosses as required.

The entire rebuild was completed in accordance with our customers expectations and the hammer mill is back in service and working within the timescale the customer required.

AJ Specialist welding can offer this service to most makes and models of hammer mills that are used  in the scrap and recycling industry.
